Contemporary Orangeries

A Spooner Brothers Orangery is something of a hybrid structure, part-way between conservatory and traditional brick extension. The contemporary orangery is perceived as a more enduring extension than a conservatory, making it the perfect space for living, dining or working.

We often incorporate large areas of glass, such as bi-fold doors, in the design. These bring the garden into the house and create one large, versatile space.

Materials

upvc

UPVC

The vast majority of conservatories are made from PVCu. This is a cost-effective option, also providing low maintenance, good insulation and structural strength. There are lots of different colours available as well as white.

timbre

Hardwood

Conservatories made of wood can give a more luxurious look to a property. They can be more in keeping with some traditional properties or those in conservation areas. A variety of different hardwoods can be used and may be painted in any colour or stained in several different shades.

alluminium

Aluminium

Aluminium is the most durable material. It has a thermal break giving excellent insulation, whilst also being the slimmest material option. It can be powder coated in virtually any colour to give a long-lasting, maintenance-free finish.

Case Study

Orangery Magic with a Floating Corner

The owners of this newly-built house wanted an extension which gave them total open access to the garden.

Spooner Brothers’ innovative idea was an Orangery with a floating corner without a supporting post. Our structural engineer calculated the support required to cantilever the corner, giving a gravity-defying appearance. Two sets of bi-fold doors completed the illusion.

The orangery measures 5 x 5 metres and is open plan to the house. The light oak finish on the windows, doors and roof lantern give this orangery a unique appearance, far exceeding customer expectations.
